Birding Mexico With RV or Tent
Pages are Under Construction - We'll Update Them As We Travel
An RV or tent-camping trip through Mexico is a great way to see birds. Even if you've never been a serious birder you'll find the birds in Mexico are hard to ignore.
Folks new to birding will need a good pair of binoculars and a good bird book. For North America north of Mexica and even a few hundred miles south of the border the best choice for a first book is probably The Sibley Guide to Birds. For Mexico itself the bible is A Guide to the Birds of Mexico and Northern Central America by Steve N.G. Howell and Sophie Webb.
Mexico offers the chance to see birds you just won't find north of the border. The ABA bird list for the US and Canada has about 675 species while Mexico has over 1,050 of them.
If you would like to take a guided bird caravan in Mexico we recommend those offered by Bert and Shari Frenz through Adventure Caravans. For more information see their site.
Here are some descriptions and pictures from other birding trips we've taken in Mexico:
San Blas Birding Trip
El Charco del Ingenia near San Miguel
See below for pictures of birds in Mexico. For the most part the birds shown aren't rare, they were just looking good. For more information about RV destinations, things to do, and campgrounds throughout Mexico see our book Traveler's Guide to Mexican Camping.
