Route: Guadalajara to Mazatlán (Toll Route)
Date: February 9, 2002
Logged By: Mike and Terri Church
Vehicle: 30-foot Class C with towed pickup

Note: This route travels from Guadalajara to Tepic via toll road. From Tepic to Mazatlán it follows the free road, the only one available for most of the distance. Driving this route in one day is difficult, get an early start. It is almost impossible to do this route in one day in a big rig if you try to travel on the free road between Guadalajara and Tepic instead of the toll road.

For the next fifteen miles this road is a narrow two lane with lots of trucks bypassing the toll road. The highway becomes one-way at the Pemex as it passes through the congested town with vehicles parked on both sides along the sidewalks and one lane down the middle. All of the trucks are driving through the town instead of taking the toll bypass so congestion doesn’t present a problem in getting through because residents get out of their way.
