After a terrific week in London we were ready to trade the hurried fast pace of the big city for the more relaxed surroundings of the country-side with its charming villages, many castles and fantastic cathedrals. Daily driving mileage for this itinerary was barely over 60 miles per day, leaving plenty of time for picnicking or strolling into town for afternoon sightseeing or evening entertainment. The first day's drive took us past a Costco on the east  side of London's outer ring road and then on farther east to the town of Canterbury, traditionally known as the center of Christianity in England.
