Channel Crossing

The shortest and usually least expensive crossing of the English Channel is from Calais, France to Dover, England - this is also the route for the Chunnel crossing by train.  Our drive northeast toward Calais took us near the port city of Dieppe so we stopped at the harbor to inquire of prices for the Dieppe-Newhaven crossing. The distance across the channel from Dieppe is more than double that of Calais to Dover, but to our surprise sailing time (in a high-speed catamaran) was similar and prices for the longer run were only a few Euros higher. We booked passage for the following morning.

This is the Superseacat, a luxury high-speed catamaran which runs the Dieppe to Newhaven English Channel crossing.

We spent the evening before boarding the Superseacat at a campgrounds in Dieppe. As can be seen in this picture, many other motorhomes spent the evening in a free parking lot located across from the harbor. A sign at the entrance said "no overnight camping." but it was obviously not being enforced during this time of the year.
