Great Food
Everyone knows that France is best appreciated for its great foods. You probably could never go wrong ordering a meal in a restaurant. No one wants to eat out all the time, however, and one of the things we appreciate most about travel by RV is that we have the choice. For us its great fun to visit local markets and grocery stores, buy all local ingredients, and trying cooking dishes we wouldn't normally have in the states. For our dinner at Domaine Du Clos St Maur we shopped at the Le Clerc hypermarche to get all the fixing to make a French cassoulet. The fact that Julia speaks French helped out in selecting ingredients we'd need.
France has perhaps the best grocery stores (they call them hypermarches) in the world. They're similar to a Wal-Mart Super Store, but are much bigger and even better. The food is top quality and by US standards, quite inexpensive. The picture on the left is of a Le Clerc hypermarche in the Loire. They're enormous! The other very popular chain we like equally and which is found throughout the country is Carrefour. In the picture on the right Julia and Terri display mushrooms and wine which the owner of the Domain Du Clos St Maur gave to us to accompany our dinner. He wouldn't consider letting us pay. Below and on the left Julia shows off how fine our cassoulet is turning out.
