Flower Market

Holland is world famous for its flowers, especially tulips. Although not many are grown within the city, just a short drive north  is the Bolembollenstreek, a 19-mile strip which is the most important bulb-growing area in The Netherlands. Different bulbs bloom at differing times of the year with tulips climaxing usually in mid to late April. We were just a couple of weeks early to catch the tulips in bloom, but communities near the bulb fields were brightly in bloom with crocus and daffodils which typically bloom earlier than the tulip.

Not many fresh tulips were offered for sale at the Bloemenmarket, Amsterdam's last floating flower market, but the florist still had lots of colorful imitations and bulbs.
