Canals
Amsterdam is both a
historic and modern city. Walking through the streets and along the canals
you can recognize both of these characteristics in the sites as well as the
people. The easiest way to explore the canals and history of the city is
take a ride by water taxi or canal tour boat. We also enjoy touring this
horseshoe shaped city by foot - get off the bus or train at Central Station
and just get lost in the maze of streets, not even attempting to find our
way out until the end of the day.
These tour boats cruise the canal near of the heart of Amsterdam and the center of all activity, Central Station. Trams following circular routes also start from here and make another great way to get familiar with the city.
With its many canals, Amsterdam is known as the "Venice of the North." The benches along the canals are ideal spots for taking a break, having a snack, or enjoying some great people watching. This is a typical scene on a sunny spring day along the canals.
